THE
annual Book Review Award Ceremony was held at St Patrick's High
last week and the esteemed guest and host this year was the
renowned storyteller Jack Scoltock.
The event was a resounding success as pupils,
parents and staff were captivated by Jack's readings from his
vast array of novels.
Jack also provided advice for any budding
young authors, revealed his inspirations and offered lots of
encouragement.
Pupils then received awards for their
reviews, and yet again, the standard was exceptionally high with
pupils choosing to review challenging works of fiction. The
trophy for overall excellence went to Patrick Magennis, year 10,
for his review of 'Hunting The Cat' by K. Gray. Patrick said: "I
was shocked and delighted to receive the award.
" I really enjoyed completing my review and I
feel very proud of myself."
Every pupil in years 8 to 10 received a free
book courtesy of Eason's in Lisburn in conjunction with World
Book Day celebrations.
Mrs Grainne McCann, Literacy Co-ordinator and
Head of English commented: "Jack Scoltock was captivating and
his presence made the day even more memorable."
