Record breaker Allister Brown drums for 102hrs 45mins non-stop |
30-year old record breaker Allister Brown from Lisburn, has
drummed for 102hrs 45mins non-stop, breaking his 2003 record
when he drummed for 58 hours and 17 minutes and also his 2004
record when he drummed for 78 hours. The current world record is
85 hours and 30 minutes and was achieved by Belgian Gery Jallo
in 2007. To break the record Allister had to play recognisable
tunes and not repeat any song within 4 hours and for each hour
he played, he was allowed a 5-minute break.
Allister started playing on Tuesday morning (22nd July) at
9.00am stopped playing on Saturday afternoon (26th July) at
3.45pm. After he had officially ended, Mr Geoffrey Cherry
thanked Allister on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust for his
hard work, which has raised over 4000 so far. Stephen
McLoughlin of Music Matters who hosted the event, said that
Allister then thanked his team, appreciating that while the
world record was a solo drum marathon it actually takes a team
of dedicated people to help. Allister also thanked the huge
crowd who cheered him through the days and then, completely
exhausted - mentally as well as physically, he signed a few
autographs and promptly left to catch up on his sleep!
People can still make a donation to Allisters chosen charity at

or by calling at Music Matters, Railway Street, Lisburn.
