A GRANDMOTHER has saved the life of her
11-month-old granddaughter by pushing her pram onto the grass
verge just seconds before a car crashed into her on Upper
Dunmurry Lane.
The woman, in her 50's, was pushing the pram
along the pavement when she was thrown four feet into the air
after being struck by a car which had been in a collision with a
van.
According to eye witnesses the collision at
the notorious black spot, where a young schoolgirl was killed
some years ago, resulted in the van ending up on its side.
The grandmother was taken away by ambulance and
the baby was also taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Police said that the van driver was also
taken to hospital.
Local MLA Jennifer McCann said she hoped the
woman would make a full recovery and praised her actions.
"This woman was really very lucky," she said.
"Goodness only knows what might have happened if she had not
seen what was going to happen. The baby was very lucky to have
escaped.
All our thoughts and prayers are with the
woman and we all hope that she is all right and makes a full
recovery."
