THREE Lisburn students will be jetting off to
the United States later this month to begin a year of study in
American Colleges.
Kevin McQuillan, Deryla McGivern and Chris
Brown will each be studying business courses at colleges across
the Us.
100 undergraduate students from across the
country have been chosen to study for one academic year at
Church related colleges across the States, through the Business
Education Initiative.
The British Council manages the BEI programme
on behalf of the Department for Employment and Learning.
Kevin McQuillan, who has been studying Law at
Queen's will be studying at Alvernia College in Reading,
Pennsylvania.
Kevin said: "It is a good chance to spread
your wings. You get to choose particular things to study during
your degree and I will get to do a bit of travelling. My family
are obviously sad to see me go but it will give them a
legitimate excuse to go to New York."
He added, "The British Council have done well
to prepare us for what we will face there."
Chris Brown, who has been undertaking an HND
in Computing at SERC, Lisburn, will be studying in Waynesburg,
Pennsylvania.
Chris commented: "I'm really looking forward
to it. I have gotten in touch with my roommate through email and
he seems like a nice guy.
"I think it will be a great year."
Deryla McGivern added, "I'm a bit nervous
going to university on my own but I'm also so excited. It will
give me a chance to meet new people and I'll get to see a lot of
the country."
Deryla, who is currently studying
Communication Advertising and Marketing at Jordanstown, will be
studying at University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota.
She added: "This is such a good opportunity,
I'm very privileged to be given this chance. We have been so
well prepared for every situation we may face by the British
Council - they have been very good."
